Indexed Equities
Overview
Aberdeen has been managing passive
equity portfolios since 1990 and as at January 31, 2012, managed over $10
billion in passive equity strategies with a large proportion of the assets
managed under country or regional passive strategies and targeting the
mainstream global indices* (S&P, MSCI and FTSE).
The investment team is very
experienced and operates an established investment process.
We offer all three main indexed
strategies and work with our institutional clients to determine the most
suitable approach for their needs.
- Full replication - hold all stocks in index
- Statistical optimization - stocks correlated to index
- Stratified sampling – matching sector/size of index by sample
*Indexes are unmanaged and provided
for illustrative purposes only. You cannot invest directly in an index.
Investment
Process
In consultation with our clients, we
identify a target tracking error; and taking account of the initial investment
size, future cash flows and the structure and liquidity of the index, we agree
an appropriate indexation strategy.
We take a pragmatic approach to
managing indexed strategies, with careful consideration to portfolio turnover
and stock liquidity.
- Analyse impact of prospective index constituent changes
- Minimize unnecessary rebalancing
- Minimize transaction costs
- Minimize price impact
- Avoid trading in illiquid stocks
- Avoid price squeeze points
